Who We Are
On March 17, 2025, the Abia State Government signed into law, the Abia State Electricity Law No. 2 of 2025. Section 7 (1) of the Law provided for the establishment of the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Authority (‘‘the Authority’’ or “ASERA”). Abia State requested the transfer of regulatory powers to the Authority, on the 16th of June 2025 from NERC. NERC formally issued Order No: NERC/2025/058, which took effect on 25th June 2025, commencing the process of transferring regulatory oversight for the intrastate electricity market from NERC to the Authority.
Our Mandate
To take over and exercise the regulatory powers and functions of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), relating to Abia State, in accordance with the Electricity Act (as may be amended or supplemented)
To set, review and adjust tariff methodologies for the purpose of setting electricity tariffs in the Abia State Electricity Market.
To formulate, issue and implement regulations, directives and guidelines and carry out such measures to ensure the development and smooth operations of the Abia State Electricity Market.
To set, review and adjust metering obligations for distribution licensees to maximise revenue collection and avoid revenue losses
